  • Give Them a Hand - Preventing Workplace Hand Lacerations (Business name)

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 250,000 serious hand, finger and wrist injuries occur in the private industry annually. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics also estimates that approximately 111,000 workers with hand and finger injuries lose days away from work annually - second only to back strain and sprain.

Hand injuries are no light matter, especially in industries where hand tools play a predominant role in the day-to-day operations of a business. In fact, OSHA statistics indicate that more than 10 percent of all on-the-job injuries involve the use or misuse of hand tools. While hand tools are common, many workers do not appreciate the possibility of injury when using them.

  • Turn An Awkward Activity Into An Opportunity To Impress - Know How To Order Wine In A Social Setting (Business card)

Many of us fear ordering wine at restaurants. Many are afraid of selecting a bad bottle; some don’t want to appear ignorant by asking the sommelier questions; few fear the awkwardness of mis-pronunciating the foreign names. Instead of running away, why not turn this into an opportunity to charm your guests.

The success factor is very simple - understand your guests’ preference. Charm your guests by putting them first. Remember, the chances of finding a bottle they like are highest when you know their preferences. Simply ask them three questions to narrow down the selection:

    o Do you prefer bubbly?

o Are you thinking of ordering meat …

  • Factoring Receivables - The Real Costx

In January 2008 Inc. Magazine, “Short on Cash?” in the Finance: Cash Flow column, the point was made that a factoring discount was an equivalent annual interest rate of 12 times the factoring discount rate. This hypothetical 12 times interest rate is then compared to a bank loan at a competitive annual rate. For the article this meant that a monthly factoring discount of 2% is equivalent to a 24% annual interest rate. This is really a misleading comparison of apples and oranges. In reality a 2% factoring discount rate is equivalent to a 2% annual interest rate, but to understand it we need to go into some detail.

  • Business card printing - Taco Stand Entrepreneurs Cook Up A Fortune

Many people think starting your own business is only afforded by the well educated or that it takes a lot of money and that’s it’s so complicated only an Ive Leaguer could handle it. The most often phrase heard when discussing entrepreneurship is, “I can’t do it” or ” I don’t have any idea what to do.” or how about, “I just don’t think I’m cut out for it.” Most people are intimidated by the very idea of striking out on their own, being their own boss or taking on the responsibility of ownership. They have the false belief they aren’t smart enough or worthy to be a business owner.

For most people starting out on their own is to simply answer the question: “How can I take what I already know and do it better than anyone else?” The very first thing they should consider is to do something they truly love. Involve themselves in something they already have a passion for.

I know sometimes it is not possible to peruse your true passion because perhaps your passion is not shared by many. It that case find a niche, a need, and simply fill it to the best of your ability. There are many valuable services that do not require years of apprenticeship before qualifying to be a provider.

    Get Your Brain In Gear.

What do you do to get the creative process going? First, take a sheet of paper and write down five to seven things you like to do or that you are really good at. Example: I am really good with plants, I love working with growing things, I love dogs, I really like cooking, I’m good at presenting myself before people. Just put down whatever you think of; it doesn’t have to make sense.

Now make a list of the things you don’t like and think you would be good at. Maybe you are a really good truck driver, but you don’t want to travel. Or, you like selling at the Flea Market but you don’t like retail sales. When you have finished with both lists, ask yourself: Are there three to five products or services that benefit me and my family and if there are, what are they?

Don’t be afraid to dig into your personal life, whatever your situation may be and determine what products or services make your life better, easier or happier, make you more productive or efficient, or simply give you more time. From that, what service could you be providing for others to help them enjoy life more? Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that make people happy. It doesn’t have to be complicated or hard to figure out, it just has to be functional.

Now, turn the paper over and write the same question about your working life. Look at what you do and don’t like about the work you have been doing as well as what others do and don’t like about you. Finally, ask yourself why you want to go into business for yourself in the first place. Then, when all is said and done, look for a reasoning to emerge (i.e., is there a need for a business doing one of the things you like or are good at?).

They Filled The Need With Roberto’s Tacos To Go

Let me give you an example.

I live in San Diego, California in an area containing a College. Within five blocks of my home there is any type of cuisine a person could desire. The College students and people who work in the small businesses have to go out because there are not many easily accessible places to go during lunch hour.

Several years ago, two brothers found this lunch situation very frustrating and realized the potential in starting a quick take-out service. There just weren’t many affordable choices where a person could get a fast lunch. Even though restaurants were plentiful the parking and waiting lines made lunch impossible.

They opened a taco stand near the college, where people could grab a quick lunch and get back to class or work. They gave their customers an extra amount on the tacos and friendly service to boot. They were the first to come up with the fish taco which became a big hit. Today their taco stands are found in five western states. They saw the opportunity and with very little cash, provided a product and service that was well received. While these brothers initially thought they were filling a local need, they actually struck a universal demand. Their situation was not unique to their area, it was, in fact, common to many areas.

  • Buying Products from Overseas

Many companies think that taking the plunge into offshore sourcing product or manufacturing is only open to large businesses. In reality, today’s market is so trendy that any size company may consider becoming global from the outset.

One of the most frequent questions I hear from customers and business reselling products is “How do I find international suppliers and manufacturers that I can rely on my ideas and money ?

There are literally thousands of Internet resources and the expectations of foreign companies doing business with the USA based buyers. At first glance, we can see many opportunities and to be seduced by the pursuit of goods at a lower price. However, after spending time looking through directories company, product listings, and make many phone calls, the sooner you realize that the price is not the only factor to take into consideration when the purchase of the product. The real question is: what kind of society do you trust and decide to pay? Like domestic suppliers to do business with you, you chose to work with these suppliers, because you have built and maintained a business relationship trustworthy.

The same applies to foreign suppliers. Off shore are equally keen to do business with friends / knowledge, and with people who were referred to them by people they know. For this reason, it is strongly recommended to have a third party introduction, if possible. It is also important to point out that foreign suppliers you are interested in developing a business relationship in the long term.

A good place to start searching for partners at sea is to network with people in your business circles. Excellent resources are industry specific trade shows, current suppliers, customers, chambers of commerce, your banker, and even competitors. You may be surprised how many people actually have contacts in other continents. A list of resources targeted for reputable suppliers and manufactures can be found at www.thomas.net.

  • Maintaining Your Industrial Refrigeration License

Many states do not recognize industrial refrigeration licenses from other states. So, if you are moving to a new state and want to keep your ammonia refrigeration license then you will need to renew it in the new state of residence. That is unless there is reciprocity in the state you are moving to, and that is unlikely. For those individuals who have changed companies and want to change the name of the company on their license then it is important to call and make the change. Most states offer a Change of Trade Name form that may be downloaded off the Internet. Another question many individuals certified to work on industrial refrigeration equipment have is whether or not they can transfer their personal license to their company’s name. The vast majority of states do not allow this and licenses are offered to individuals only. Company names may be added to the license but cannot replace the individual’s license.

Another issue that arises with industrial refrigeration technicians is whether or not they should renew their license if they know they will not be working on equipment for a year. Most states will allow a license lapse of one year with a small renewal fee. However, when a license lapses for two years or more then the technician is required to take and pass the licensing exam for a second time. So, license renewal is usually cheaper. That is unless you are not planning on working on refrigeration equipment for many years. Overall, it is recommended to keep the license up to date.

  • Working With A Virtual Assistant

When meeting with a new client I am often asked the question “What can a Virtual Assistant do for me?” While it is easy for me to rhyme off a list of assignments and tasks I perform for other clients, it may not be the kind of work that this new client needs immediate help with. Administration work does have commonalities to it, but every client’s needs are different and unique to them.

Virtual Assistants are a relatively new concept and as such it is hard for people to know what we can do, but basically if you can imagine giving a task to an Assistant you can most likely give it to a Virtual Assistant! With the vast array of technology available enabling people to work effectively while mobile, today it is easier than ever to effectively support a client that is half a world away. Half of my clients I have never physically met; I have never been to their office and they have not been to mine! Being based in Brisbane Australia, it always intrigues and enthuses me that I can assist my clients interstate here in Australia and recently, China, just as effectively as I do my clients a few kilometres away.

I have found that Solo Operators seem to make up the majority of my clients. Solo Operators are usually people who work extremely effectively on their own and don’t want the physical presence of somebody in their office. Virtual Assistants fit in with their dynamic well. We are on call when they need us and don’t disturb their workflow with a dozen little questions everyday. On the flipside, medium size organisations I have found, also use Virtual Assistants. They may have undergone restructuring, where non-core staff (often found to be admin. staff) have been reduced. This sometimes leaves the situation of highly skilled professionals each doing small amounts of administration.

If you are considering, or even if you currently use a Virtual Assistant, following are some ideas to help you get the most out of your relationship with your Virtual Assistant:

What Would You Really Like To Be Doing With Your Time?

Wouldn’t you like to be spending more time working ‘on your business’ and not ‘in your business’? Yes I know it is a cliché, but to achieve this you really have to let go of some things. All the Business Coach’s tell us that to be successful, you have to try to work yourself out of your current position. You need to put a plan in place to delegate some of your current work load in order to move on to that higher position (even if it is in your own business). You can start this process by simply making a list of things “I would like my Virtual Assistant to do” and match it with a list of “things that I want to do when I have more time”.

Express Your Personality And Working Style

Are you outgoing or introverted? Do you like regular updates & contact or do you prefer to work autonomously? All these little idiosyncrasies speak volumes to a Virtual Assistant. We don’t have the benefit of working ‘physically’ alongside you everyday and observing your behaviour. Perhaps after deciding on your Virtual Assistant, have a casual conversation sharing details about yourselves; what are your business goals, what times of the day do you prefer to be contacted, how do you prefer to be contacted (email, sms, phone) and so on…

  • Looking For A Business Loan? Have You Considered Factoring Invoices?

Are you looking for a business loan? Obtaining business financing in the current economic climate can be a challenge. Most lending institutions have strict lending requirements and only lend to companies that can show a sustained profitability and verified financial records. Because of this, most small or new businesses can’t qualify and are left looking for a solution elsewhere.

However, there is a solution that is available to companies that sell goods to other businesses or to the government. Although it is not suitable for every business, it can work very well if your biggest challenge is that you can’t wait 30 to 60 days to get paid for your invoices. If this is the case, then factoring invoices may be the right solution for you.

The value proposition of factoring is very simple. You get an advance payment for your invoices, which gives you the necessary funds to pay employees and suppliers. The factoring company, in turn, waits to get paid by your customer. The whole transaction is settled once your customer pays their invoice. Factoring gives you the necessary funding to meet day to day expenses such as payroll and suppliers, putting your company on a more stable financial ground.

Factoring companies have different financing criteria than most lending institutions. They provide funding based on the financial strength of your customers. This makes it an ideal product for small or growing companies whose biggest asset is a roster of strong clients. Also, invoice factoring can be obtained fairly quickly. Most transactions can be completed in a matter of days.

  • What New Uses and Adjustments Will Delight Users of Your Offerings?

A number of years ago, marketing managers for Jell-O were looking for a way to expand volume for the brand’s gelatin. The product was one of the most profitable food products ever, but volume growth was weak.

The marketers decided to visit gelatin purchasers in their kitchens to see what they used the product for. Undoubtedly, they expected to see moms and kids making bowls of gelatin like their own moms once made for them.

Not so in some kitchens. Here, inventive moms put highly concentrated gelatin into cookie cutter molds, and children played with this new form of the well-known food before eating it.

This investigation was the beginning of how the Jell-O Jigglers promotion was ultimately developed. These delightful edible toys made gelatin making and eating more attractive for moms and kids, and helped the company by encouraging a much higher use of their gelatin.

Companies that have active help lines and online bulletin boards often get similar ideas from those sources. Many businesses also hold customer councils of their largest and most advanced users to find ideas to improve what they offer. Seek out nontraditional users to find the most innovative opportunities.
